There have definitely been other collaborative living models. We’re attempting to address a specific set of annoyances facing shared living without getting too prescriptive about how people live their lives (e.g., the communal work model of kibbutzim).
Re: investing together — you mean homeownership? In my opinion it’s wildly overrated. For society, it’s been shown to lead to structural unemployment as it prohibits free movement. For individuals, I am a fan of the German model in which housing as a consumer need is separated from housing as an asset class. Leads to density and affordability.
